This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program and candidates must meet the requirements of the program which include being between 15 and 30 years of age and having status as a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee.
This is a short-term temporary role, for 8 consecutive weeks. 35 hours per week at $18.00 per hour.
The Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce team is looking for a self-starter who has a strong grasp on digital marketing, corporate communications and social media to help us tell our story as we celebrate the 2023 Business Excellence Awards presented by MNP.
The position will be a mix of in-person and remote work.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to be active in the community and create real communication pieces for real audiences.
This role is ideal for a 3rd or 4th year student who is Majoring in Journalism, Communications or Digital Marketing. An interest in business, politics and community is considered an asset.
Your Role – Business Excellence Awards Focus
- Connect and engage with Kamloops & District Chamber members across various sectors and industries to help us to communicate our story and highlight our membership and the Business Excellence Awards through a variety of mediums, including videos, images, blog posts, newsletters and social media posts.
- Engage in discussion and post to our preferred social media channels, including: LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
- Create and schedule social media posts that will grow our audience, engage our members and support fulfilling sponsorship requests.
- Support membership retention and engagement goals through engaging on social media
- Attend events in the community to enhance the Chamber’s presence on social media and improve digital engagement
Your Skills
- Words like alt text, SEO, backlinks, landing pages and keyword research are the norm in your vocabulary
- You write informative blogs and social media copy that adapt to our corporate tone, but is infused with your own flare
- You know which trends are emerging that we should be paying attention to, whether it is a new tool to pilot or topic that will soon blow-up
- You are able to frame videos/photos professionally using a phone
- You can give direction to subjects to capture high-quality images/videos using a phone
- You rarely start an article with Webster’s Dictionary defines…
- You are self-motivated and keen to bring new ideas to the table
- Able to move seamlessly through digital tools effortlessly from HubSpot to Facebook to OneDrive and so forth.
- Ability to write content that inspires engagement on social media platforms
Proficient In:
- Microsoft Suite
- Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn
- Canva
- Used Scheduling software like Later or HootSuite
- Experience in HubSpot or Salesforce an asset
- Experience with Zapier an asset
Bonus Points
- Interest in business or politics and writing for business or political audiences
- Demonstrates the desire to create impact with your work
- Ability to set up and test communication automations
- You know how to make Reels

- This 8-week position will start on Tuesday, July 4 and will end on Tuesday, August 29
