Rebuilding the Kamloops Business Community in 2021

We will all remember 2020 as the year COVID-19 shook up the world, with Merriam-Webster giving the word ‘pandemic’ the title as the official word of the year. Pivot, adapt and unprecedented became common lingo in our vocabularies.

As I reflect on 2020, I like to look at the year as a learning opportunity. We learned about flexible new ways to work together, we learned that to remain competitive we need to bolster our online presence (ourselves included), and we saw that as a community we showed up to support our local businesses – we are #YKAstrong.

This year our Chamber hits a milestone year. The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce is celebrating 125-years of building, fostering and supporting the Kamloops business community. Traditionally we would roll out the red carpet, but we will hold off on the celebrations until we can safely meet again. Instead, our team is focusing on you and your business needs.

Last fall, we asked 100 business professionals what tools and resources they need today to survive, then thrive. Using the information collected from you and working with our community partners – we have two complementary opportunities to take advantage of today, including:

#DER3: Digital Economy: Rapid Response + Resiliency Program: Alongside our community partners, this Kamloops Innovation led initiative is designed for businesses struggling without in-person customers. Industry experts will audit your online presence (or non-presence) and make recommendations to help you succeed online. Learn more and apply here.

Building Resiliency to Thrive: Teaches you how to adapt your business models, re-engage your customers and adjust your workplace cultures. Thanks to the generous support from Western Economic Diversification, the City of Kamloops and Venture Kamloops – we are able to offer this program complementary to the Kamloops Business community. The next cohort starts on Tuesday, January 12, then the final cohort on Wednesday, February 24Email our team ASAP and we’ll get you registered!

These programs are just the beginning, we have also expanded our extended health benefits program to offer more comprehensive mental health resources for members who utilize Chamber Plan, which covers all sides of the workplace experience – even when the workplace is at home. We are pleased to now offer virtual appointments from a variety of providers, including Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech Therapists, Dieticians, Naturopaths and Optometrists.

2021 is about resetting and rebuilding the way we do business. If you would like to schedule a virtual coffee to discuss programming, extended health benefits or even just to catch up with a familiar face, please schedule a meeting with me here.

Let’s remember to take care of each other, let’s continue to support our local business community and let’s rebuild a better tomorrow.

Stay tuned, we are just getting warmed up.
