Kamloops Chamber Hosting Free Workshop for Prospective City Council Candidates

May 26 – Kamloops - The Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce is inviting community members interested in municipal leadership to attend a free educational workshop, So You Want to Run for City Council, taking place on June 10, 2026.

The session is designed to help prospective candidates better understand what it means to serve in local government, what the election process looks like, and what to expect when running for office. The workshop will feature experienced local government leader Allison Habkirk and provide attendees with practical insights into campaigning, governance, and community leadership.

As communities across British Columbia prepare for the 2026 local government elections, the Chamber says creating opportunities for civic education and engagement is important to ensuring strong local leadership and informed participation in the democratic process.

“Municipal government decisions have a direct impact on our business community and the overall vibrancy of our region,” said Acacia Pangilinan. “We want to help encourage thoughtful, informed community members to step forward and better understand what public service at the local level looks like. Whether someone is seriously considering a run or simply curious about the process, this workshop is a great place to start.”

The workshop is free to attend and open to anyone interested in learning more about running for City Council. Advanced registration is encouraged.
