The Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce applauds the Province, Doctors of BC and BC Family Doctors recent decision to introduce a new payment model for family doctors.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KAMLOOPS B.C. — The Chamber has heard loud and clear from its membership about the need to address many of the healthcare challenges faced in the region and is pleased with the recent announcement of the new payment model, co-developed by Doctors of BC, BC Family Doctors and the Province, beginning February 2023.
Access to primary care and family physicians has come up during recent member roundtables and surveying engagements and the Chamber has heard anecdotally that some of these challenges are impeding the ability of other businesses to attract and retain employees.
The Chamber recently adopted the Ensuring Access to Family Medicine to Secure BC’s Employment Market policy which asked the Province to ensure that a new Physician Master Agreement is in place prior to the end of the stabilization funding period in January and that the agreement fully and properly compensates family physicians for the time they spend dealing with patients, and for the time and cost of keeping their clinics open and available to patients. The new payment model does that and, while it is not a solution in itself to B.C.’s family physician crisis, it addresses the fundamental inequity in the system that causes physicians to leave family practice or to choose other options when starting their careers.
This announcement is welcomed news in the Kamloops & District business community.
