Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce Responds to the Province of BC’s $10.5 Million Allocation Towards Vandalism Support for Businesses

Kamloops – July 27, 2023 –

The Province of BC has launched a new “Securing Small Business Rebate Program”, that allocates $10.5 million to provide relief grants for small businesses dealing with the costs of vandalism.

The program will cover incidents retroactive to January 1, 2023 and businesses can apply for up to $2000 to help with vandalism repairs and up to $1000 for preventative measures. More information about the program and how businesses can apply will be made available in the coming months.

The Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce is pleased to extend its support for this program as this will directly help small businesses and recognizes the significant cost of vandalism acts and crime to businesses. The Chamber has been administering the local vandalism support grant in Kamloops since 2021 and is pleased to see this become a Provincial program.

“We applaud the Province in taking action to support businesses in the aftermath of vandalism incidents and welcome the “Securing Small Business Rebate Program”. We are especially pleased to see preventative measures included in this program. The Chamber understands the adverse impact that vandalism can have on the financial stability and emotional well-being of business owners and their employees. The announcement of the provincial funding is a step forward in ensuring that our local businesses have the support they need to recover and flourish.” Executive Director, Acacia Pangilinan.

The Kamloops & District Chamber will be working through the BC Chamber of Commerce and with the ministry on this program and will provide more information in the coming months.
