Create Kamloops First Parklet

In celebration of 125-years of service to the local business community, the Kamloops Chambers and its community partners and its members are activating public space.

KAMLOOPS, BC – The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce alongside its members have activated Kamloops first parklet outside its downtown office located at 615 Victoria Street to create a gathering space for community members and visitors to enjoy.

Parklets aim to reclaim public space that typically were used for other purposes, in this case, two parallel parking stalls were used to create a pop-up park. Parklets are popping up around the world to create vibrancy in densifying cities beginning in San Francisco in the early 2000’s. They come in many iterations and sizes. The Chamber’s parklet includes seating, tables, greenery and bike parking, which is free for all to enjoy. The project was steered by Acres Enterprises.

Phillip Stagg-Tanner, Vice President of Operations for Acres, says “Acres is excited to work in partnership with the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce in the delivery of this vibrant community space, which will offer a unique area to bring an element of calm outdoor space to the heart of downtown. Members of the Chamber have come forward to work together on this project to create this innovative way to temporarily expand the area for the Chamber and its members to meet”

Acacia Pangilinan, Executive Director for the Kamloops Chamber, says “Enjoy a business meeting here, bring the kids for ice cream or just take a moment to smell the flowers. Our team aims to support our businesses with bold initiatives that create vibrant communities and vibrant businesses”

This project was made possible through the generous donations and support of the local business community and partners, including:

Acres Enterprises Ltd.
