Kamloops Chamber Celebrates Policy Successes at BC Chamber AGM

Last week, the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce had the opportunity to attend the 74th Annual BC Chamber AGM & Conference in beautiful Fort St. John.

Representing the Chamber were Board President Alicia Glaicar, 2nd Vice President Shannon Mitchell, Policy Advisor Brant Hasanen, and Executive Director Acacia Pangilinan.

The conference brought together Chamber leaders, business advocates, and policymakers from across British Columbia for several days of learning, discussion, and collaboration. We participated in thoughtful conversations about BC's energy future, the current political landscape, economic competitiveness, and the importance of meaningful Indigenous reconciliation as we work to build stronger communities and a stronger province.

One of the most important roles Chambers play is advocating for the needs of local businesses, and we were proud to bring forward five policy resolutions developed through our local policy process and informed by the experiences and expertise of Kamloops business leaders.
We're pleased to share that four of our five policy resolutions were adopted by the BC Chamber network:
• Enhancing CRA Contact Centre Accuracy, Training, and Professional Access
• Improving BC Hydro Project Delivery, Transparency, and Service Standards for Business Customers
• Improving WorkSafeBC Claims Efficiency, Stakeholder Engagement, and System Accountability
• New and Increased Provincial Taxes Impacting Business and Economic Growth

These policy wins mean that issues identified by Kamloops businesses will now be advanced through the BC Chamber and Canadian Chamber networks, helping ensure the concerns of our business community are heard at the provincial and federal levels.

We were also thrilled to see our own Brant Hasanen appointed as Chair of the BC Chamber Board of Governors. Brant's leadership, expertise, and commitment to advocacy have made a tremendous impact locally, and we know he will serve the provincial Chamber network exceptionally well in this important role.
Beyond the policy work, there is something powerful about being in a room with Chamber leaders from every corner of the province, all working toward the same goal: stronger businesses, stronger communities, and a stronger British Columbia.

It was incredibly encouraging to reconnect with colleagues from across BC and experience the renewed energy within the BC Chamber network. The organization is moving forward with strong leadership, a clear vision, and a renewed focus on delivering value for Chambers and the businesses we collectively serve.

We returned home feeling motivated, inspired, and energized about the work ahead.
A sincere thank you to the Fort St. John & District Chamber of Commerce for their warm hospitality and for hosting an outstanding conference. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, share ideas, and continue building relationships that strengthen business communities across British Columbia.
